Cassandra Wales, Business Mgr.

Dr. Wales grew up the son of a race track vet in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.

After high school, Steve attended Michigan State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology (and a hefty dose of school spirit!)  He then attended Ross University where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.  In his senior year, Dr. Wales did his clinical at Washington State and had an internship at Equine Specialty Hospital in Ohio.

Given his history, it was only natural that Dr. Wales would develop a love of the Thoroughbred athlete and equine sports medicine.  He has specialized in Equine Lameness, working on the track at Great Lakes Downs with his dad as a youngster, and then as a vet from 2000 to 2007.  He founded his own practice in 2005.

In 2007, Steve moved his practice to Presque Isle Downs and he continues to practice there.  Over the last several years, he has worked to expand the business to include pleasure horses and show horses in the Erie area.  In 2014, he began an additional venture at Mahoning Valley Racecourse in Youngstown, OH.

Dr. Wales and his wife, Cassandra and three children, Gabriella, Vincent and Alyssa are full time residents in Erie, PA.   They share their home with four dogs.

Cass grew up in the lovely town of Grand Haven, Michigan, where her tight-knit family owned and operated a plastics company.

Cass is an animal lover and has had many philanthropic endeavors, including animal welfare.  She has been a strong supporter of the Off-Track Thoroughbred, ensuring retired Thoroughbreds have a safe and permanent home after their racing careers end.  She has also volunteered and supported a number of small animal rescues and welfare groups.

In her not-so-frequent spare time, Cass enjoys entertaining, gardening and spending time with her family.
